What to pack for a long EV road trip
Our full kit list, including the one cable and the one card we would never leave home without.
Packing for an electric road trip is mostly the same as any road trip, with a handful of extras that make the charging side genuinely painless. Here’s what’s going in the Sealion before we set off.
The charging kit
Our Electroverse card is the one thing we wouldn’t leave the drive without, it’s what unlocks the rapid networks right across Europe on a single account. A Type 2 cable lives in the boot for slower AC stops and campsites, and a granny charger is our last-ditch backup for a normal wall socket when there’s nothing else around. We also chuck in a plain contactless card and a little cash for the rare charger that plays outside the network.
The comfort kit
Charge stops are so much nicer with a flask, a couple of folding chairs and something to do for half an hour. We’d honestly rather treat them as part of the adventure than an interruption, some of the best bits of the trip happen while the car’s plugged in.
The just-in-case kit
Offline maps downloaded before we lose signal, a paper list of key chargers for the thin stretches, a small first-aid kit, a tyre inflator, and all the usual documents, the car’s paperwork and a Green Card for the countries that still ask for one.
