Privacy Policy
We only keep what we need to run the trip, and you can ask us to delete it any time.
Who we are
EV There Yet? is a personal travel channel documenting an electric car road trip. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at info@evthereyet.com.
What we collect
Your email and name if you sign up, ask a question or back the trip. A message and display preference if you leave one for the wall. A postal address only if you ask for a postcard. Payment records, though never your full card details, which go straight to Stripe. Song suggestions if you add to the playlist. If you use the trip planner, the places you search for. We also keep basic first party analytics, and a one way scrambled version of your IP address that lets us stop spam and abuse without storing the address itself.
Why we collect it, and our legal basis
To run your account and keep it secure, to take and acknowledge contributions, to send a postcard if you asked for one, to show the Charged by wall if you consent, to answer your questions, and to send trip updates if you opted in. Where you have asked for something, such as updates or the wall, our basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Where you back the trip, our basis is performing that arrangement with you, and keeping the financial record is a legal obligation. For keeping the site secure and free of spam, our basis is our legitimate interest in it working properly.
Who we share it with
Only the services that make this work. Stripe handles payments. Our hosting and database provider stores your account. Our email provider sends the emails you asked for. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that form submissions are not from bots, which involves your IP address and some basic browser signals. If you add a song, that goes to Spotify. If you use the trip planner or the maps, your request reaches OpenStreetMap, Carto and OpenRouteService so the map and route can be drawn. Videos are embedded from YouTube in its no cookie mode, so nothing is set until you press play. We never sell your data and we never share it for advertising.
Where your data goes
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, or store data outside it. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place, such as UK approved contract terms, so your data keeps the same protection it has here.
How long we keep it
Account and contact details for as long as you have an account, and you can ask us to delete them sooner. Payment and contribution records for six years after the tax year they fall in, because we are legally required to keep them. Wall messages and playlist entries stay while they are published, and go when you ask us to remove them or when we take the feature down. Analytics are kept in an aggregated form that does not identify you.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and you must be at least 18 to contribute. We do not knowingly collect information about children. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You can delete everything yourself in seconds: sign in, open your account page and use Delete my data. It removes your account, your name and message from the wall, your questions, playlist entries, route ideas, votes, saved routes, postal address and newsletter signup, and it cancels any membership at the same time. You can also access, correct, download or restrict your data, withdraw consent, or unsubscribe at any time. Email us and we will sort it, usually within a month and always free of charge.
If you are unhappy
Please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for logging in and keeping your session secure, and a lightweight ID so a vote is only counted once. Our analytics are first party and cookieless, which means we count visits without following you around the internet. We set no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why you are not being asked to dismiss a cookie banner.
Changes
We will update this page if anything changes. Last updated 03/08/2026.
