Charging through Serbia and North Macedonia

Everyone warned us that the charging map goes quiet the moment you leave the core of the EU. They were half right. It thins out, but the drive down through Serbia and North Macedonia was one of the best stretches of the whole trip.

Planning around the gaps

We charged to full on the Croatian side and treated every station beyond as a bonus rather than a plan. Two apps covered almost everything we needed, and a paper backup of station locations saved us once when signal dropped in the mountains between Belgrade and Skopje.

Range anxiety is mostly information anxiety. Fix the information and the anxiety mostly goes away.

Belgrade to the border

Crossing the Danube into Belgrade felt like a milestone, the point where the trip stopped being a European road trip and started being a proper expedition. By the time the road tipped down towards Greece, the light had gone Mediterranean and the car was quietly sipping its way south.
